5-Day Experiment with a New Skin Care Routine and the Results Were 👎 Sub-Par

jlo beauty vs drug store brands

I was not going to write again today as I have a million and one things to do, but I can’t help myself. 5 days ago, just to satisfy my own curiosity, I decided to replace my favorite face cleanser and moisturizer with a less expensive brand that has over 11,000 5-star reviews on Amazon.

So, Why Did I Change My Daily Cleanser and Moisturizer You Ask?

Well, if answering in hindsight, it’s because I’m an a**!

I did not do this because I was out of my regular products, I did it because I am seeing posts on social media where people are saying that a cleanser is a cleanser, and a moisturizer is a moisturizer. They claim that it’s the products you use in addition to your cleanser and moisturizer that help with fine lines and wrinkles, brightness, firmness, you know, all of those things that we all want to see in our skin.

I cannot argue that using additional products does in fact help your skin drastically, after all, I use countless products on a daily basis because I know they work and make a difference in how my skin looks.  What I can say for absolute certain is this:

The cleanser and moisturizer I use played a vital role in the appearance of my skin… PERIOD!

So, here’s how it began. My 48-year-old face all of a sudden decided to revert back to 16; and while I would love to have the firmness I had back then, I can do without the pimples. After months of dealing with it (not consistently, but enough to be annoying), I went in search for something that would clear my face up, and I came across this face wash that is supposedly proven to deep clean by removing dirt, excess oils, and impurities.

As much as I love my daily cleanser, I decided to give it a shot for a few days to see if it would help with the breakout.

After all, 11,000 people on Amazon can’t be wrong – CAN THEY?! I then decided that since there is also a moisturizer, I would test it out to make sure that my favorites are not responsible for the breakouts I’ve been having. I mean, my hormones are all over the place considering I’m 2 months away from being in full menopause, but I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t something to do with the products I have been using.

Now, I am prepared for everyone to say that I did not give the product a chance, and maybe they’re right in terms of the breakout, but that is NOT AT ALL why I stopped using the products and went back to my regular cleanser and moisturizer.

What Happened to My Face?

When I looked in the mirror today, my jowls literally looked like they were sagging, the skin under my eyes looked like it was having a tug-of-war fight with my ears, and my pores looked like the black hole. If that wasn’t bad enough, the redness on my face that I have worked so hard to minimize made a comeback!

What Product Brand Did I Experiment With?

I used Cetaphil Daily Cleanser and the moisturizer. I’m sorry if anyone reading this uses it and is offended but I cannot promote that product on my blog. I have a loyal duty to my readers to share my honest reviews with them so, I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I seriously wish I would have taken a picture because as soon as I begged forgiveness from my favorite JLo Beauty products, my jowls had done an upward climb and my eyes look more hydrated. Unfortunately, the redness is still there and I’m sure it’s going to take a few days for that to die down along with the size of my pores, but I’m willing to wait it out because if the products worked once, they will work again.

With that said, look out for my next review as I am trying out a new Vitamin C Serum and will report back. I had to do a spot-test or whatever you call it to make sure that I won’t have a reaction to it, so I should be able to begin using it in a couple days. Hopefully, I will have a review in a few weeks depending on how quickly I see results (if at all!)

The moral of this story is: if you are happy with the products in your skin-care routine, don’t change them. It’s one thing to add products to your daily or weekly routine, but to completely change your everyday cleanser and moisturizer just because 11,000 people on Amazon told you to is just plain reckless. I am done being reckless!
